Cliff’s Local Market Raises $38,000 to Help Local Families Living with Muscular Dystrophy
UTICA, NY March 22, 2018 – Nineteen Cliff’s Local Markets teamed with customers to raise $38,000 to help free kids and adults from the harm of muscular dystrophy, ALS and related life-threatening diseases that limit strength and mobility during the 36th annual MDA Shamrocks program to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
“The generosity of our employees and customers this year was second-to-none,” said Jim Clifford, President of Cliff’s Local Market. “Even the smallest contribution to the MDA can make a world of difference for someone living with this disease and we are so grateful to everyone who participated.”
From February 1 to March 17, Cliff’s Local Market locations participated in the nation’s largest St. Patrick’s Day fundraising program in which customers and associates purchased an MDA Shamrock at check-out for a $1 or $5 contribution at check-out. Each Shamrock was signed by the customer and prominently displayed in each store, symbolizing strength, independence and life for MDA families in the community.
Since first teaming up with MDA in 1982, Clifford Fuel- Cliff’s Local Market and its customers have raised more than $400,000 to help MDA provide the families it serves with critical resources and support to fulfill life goals. This year, the MDA Shamrocks program united tens of thousands of retail locations throughout the country to benefit the organization’s shared mission to fund groundbreaking research across diseases and provide individuals with life-enhancing programs and support services, including state-of-the-art multidisciplinary care the MDA Care Center at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.
Recent major medical and scientific advancements including the development of four new drugs that are now available treatment options, and the promise of more to come, make today the most promising time in the history of neuromuscular disease research and care — made possible in part by the funds raised and support given over the years to the MDA Shamrocks program.
Funds raised also make MDA Summer Camp possible for more than 69 area kids where they can experience the best week of the year at no cost to their families at Rotary Sunshine Campus in Rush, NY.
